This week, I made a much-needed plunge back into society. After months of slipping stealthily into galleries during patron hours (the quiet time for serious buyers), we finally went to an opening specifically to reconnect with people we hadn't seen in a long time and to get back in the swing of being out. It helped that, earlier in the week, I had another social engagement out of the house and a small get-together with friends at my place. This weekend capped it off as we attended a family function and also got together with friends in San Diego for greatly needed alcohol and fine dining.
After much depression and getting lost in work (and the uncertainty of work), I feel back to a place where life is a balance of work and play. I hope to keep this up and make 2009 a banner year in both professional and personal senses.
We have a Chicago trip in the works, wherein we plan to take a side excursion to Nebraska. (Don't ask, but I'm excited.) I hope our short time in Chicago will yield a couple of visits with friends in addition to the requisite wedding. (Another wedding we'll go to this year is in San Diego, and I just found out we have to compete with Deadheads for rooms, since the hotel is having some Grateful Dead convention the same weekend... that'll be interesting.)
I still have lots of projects going on, but I'm working on myself too. I learned this weekend about some annoying information that has made me recommitted to not wasting my time on people who are black hole-like time vacuums and me-me-me vortices of give-me-attention pleas. I need to stop worrying about whether people like or need me and concentrate on who I actually like and want.
